AFSS Plan Specification Requirements
Three sets of drawings with system specifications are required for every submittal.
Title Block Requirements
The Title Block on all drawings shall contain the following information:
- Name of Owner and Occupant: Include the full name of the property owner and the current business occupant.
- Location Details: Provide the full street address and mailing address, including the zip code.
- Professional Contacts: Include the name, address, phone, fax, and email address for both the designer and the installing contractor.
- Plan Identifier: Assign a specific Plan Number or Name for tracking purposes.
- Scale and Scope: Provide a scale including graphic representation or suitably dimensioned drawings with clear data specifications, along with a detailed scope of work in narrative format.
Information Required on Drawings
The following technical details must be explicitly marked on all submitted plans:
- Hood Specifications: Indicate the type (canopy, eyebrow, back-shelf, etc.) and the length, width, and height of the hood being protected.
- Suppression System Manufacturer: Identify the manufacturer and type of suppression system being installed (e.g., Ansul, Piranha, PyroChem).
- Agent and Tank Data: Specify the UL300 listed system agent employed and the amount. Include the size of the system, number of tanks, and water supply details if applicable.
- Kitchen Layout (Plan View): Provide a layout including exiting, exit lighting, ABC & K fire extinguishers, location of manual activation device(s), and gas/electrical shut-off valve locations.
- Flow Point Analysis: Provide a description of the maximum number of flow points supported by the system and the actual number of flow points used.
- Nozzle and Appliance Detail: Include an isometric view and description with the location of nozzles and the specific types of appliances protected.
- Piping Arrangement: Detail the size, length, and arrangement of connected piping (this may be combined with the isometric view).
- Volume Limitations: Note the maximum length of pipe and fittings permitted, along with any volume limitations.
- Support Configuration: Provide a detail of the rigid pipe support configuration and the method of securement to the pipe and supportive structures.
- Detection Devices: Mark the location and function of all heat detection devices, including fusible link assemblies and detectors.
- Conduit and Cable Layout: Provide an isometric view and layout of all conduit, pulleys, fittings, and cable.
- Container Securement: Include a detail and the method used for securing the container to both the building and the container itself.
