In the effort to reduce the incidents of loss of life and property from fires, the five-member Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for performing plan reviews for new construction and fire code enforcement in over 9,000 public and private buildings. Each project also requires 2 to 4 inspections during construction. The prevention specialists will assist local jurisdiction with technical advice or inspections when requested. The bureau also supervises and directs:

  1. Campus Fire Marshals who are deputized employees of colleges and universities.

  2. Life Safety Surveyors from the State Department of Health who evaluate fire safety within hospitals and nursing homes.

  3. School District Fire Marshal Program to help with fire safety in local schools.
